The Amelia Peabody Foundation advances the work of nonprofit organizations across the Commonwealth. Our grantmaking is rooted in an understanding that expertise lies within communities and those who serve them.
We approach our work with curiosity and an eagerness to learn, a bias towards translating that learning into action, and a focus on identifying gaps and opportunities for impact to improve conditions for children and families.

We work to expand opportunities for children by improving access to high-quality early childcare, educational enrichment, and out-of-school-time programs, while also investing in services that strengthen family stability and help all children and families thrive.

Friendly House
Friendly House is a multi-service organization in Worcester providing childcare, after-school programs, housing and shelter for families, food access, and immigrant services. In 2024, the Foundation supported Friendly House with a three-year capital and general operating grant in recognition of the vital role it plays in the fabric of support for Worcester area families and newly arrived residents.

Roots Rising
Roots Rising empowers youth and builds community through food and farming in Pittsfield, a Gateway City in Berkshire County. The Foundation has funded Roots Rising for four years with general operating grants to support their workforce readiness, food access, and educational programming, as well as their emerging Farm and Education Center.

Girls on the Run Western Massachusetts
Girls on the Run Western Massachusetts (GOTRWMA) serves Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin, and Berkshire counties with their evidence-based approach to blending physical activity with life skill development. Since 2015, over 13,500 girls in Western Massachusetts have benefited from Girls on the Run programming. The Foundation has been supporting GOTRWMA’s expansion since 2021, enabling free access to low-income participants across both rural and urban sites in Western Massachusetts.

LEAP for Education
LEAP for Education helps over 500 underserved students every year, primarily in Salem and Lynn, achieve educational, career and personal growth by partnering with the community to increase opportunities and advance equity. LEAP offers a pipeline of year-long programs for youth ages 11-22 that leads them to a career that matches their interests. For a decade, the Foundation has supported their post-secondary and workforce development efforts.

Esperanza Academy
Esperanza Academy is an independent, tuition-free, all-girls middle school in Lawrence. The school makes a 12-year commitment to each fifth grader that enters, supporting Esperanza students from middle school, through high school, and onto their post-secondary journeys. One hundred percent of their over 250 graduates have completed high school, and of those who attend college, 100% have graduated. For 20 years, the Foundation has supported the growth of the school, particularly their Extended Day Program.

For Kids Only
For Kids Only (FKO) provides childcare for youth ages 5-14 from under-resourced communities in Eastern Massachusetts. In 2024, the Foundation invested in FKO’s innovative, full-time, registered apprenticeship pilot program for out-of-school-time workers offering an earn-while-you-learn career pathway to living-wage jobs for individuals passionate about youth development in underserved communities. FKO is now leading the effort to scale this model statewide, with continued support from the Foundation.
